Adhkaar Over Musical Notification sounds.
Short note on why Muslims need to stop using notification sounds with musical instruments such as bell, piano or organ sounds and switch to using Allah’s remembrance wordings (Adhkaar) in place of them.
Muslims are encouraged to constantly remember Allah (SWT) through various means, including reciting His names and attributes, reading the Quran, and making supplications. However, many Muslims today use notification sounds on their electronic devices that include musical instruments, such as bells, chimes, or other melodies.
This practice goes against the teachings of Islam as musical instruments are considered haram (forbidden) in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “There will be among my nation people who will regard as permissible adultery, silk, alcohol and musical instruments.” (Sahih Bukhari)
Therefore, it is important for Muslims to avoid using notification sounds with musical instruments and instead switch to using Allah’s remembrance wordings (Adhkaar) in their place. Adhkaar are simple phrases or statements that Muslims can recite to remember Allah, such as “SubhanAllah” (glory be to Allah), “Alhamdulillah” (all praise be to Allah), and “La ilaha illallah” (there is no god but Allah).
By using Adhkaar instead of notification sounds with musical instruments, Muslims can reinforce their connection with Allah and avoid engaging in haram practices. This small but significant change in behaviour can lead to a more spiritually fulfilling and rewarding life.
The last notification on the list below can be used on Friday to serve as a reminder to always ask for Allah’s blessings for the prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) as The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Among the best of your days is Friday. On that day pray to Allah to exalt my mention frequently, for your such supplications are presented to me.”[Abu Dawud].
Note: it’s important to always shuffle between the audio from time to time so as to renew connection, awareness and seriousness of saying the Adhkaar each time it beeps.
